Who does this fund support?

This is our most flexible fund, meaning it can be used to fund a wide range of initiatives that contribute to the wellbeing of the people of Denmark, or which strengthen our community. Better still, it allows the Foundation’s Board to direct funds to where it’s most needed.

If you’ve read our Social Isolation report, you’ll understand why our current focus is on funding initiatives that reduce social isolation and loneliness for the people of Denmark.

Humans are social by nature, and our need to connect with others is crucial to our both our mental and physical health. Unfortunately, Australia is experiencing a loneliness epidemic with at least 1 in 3 of us feeling lonely, and 1 in 6 of us feeling very lonely at any given time.

Your gift to this fund will benefit the whole community as loneliness is something we all feel. But it will be of particular help to those who are more vulnerable to loneliness, such as young people, carers, people in financial stress, and those who live alone or are living with a chronic disease or poor mental health.

What support does this fund provide?

Your gift will help provide grants to local organisations that enable them to run initiatives that reduce social isolation by bringing the people of Denmark together. This includes funding:

• Events – such as Green Skills’ community garden workshops and art project, the Denmark Environment Centre’s citizen science Bio Blitz and the Christmas Festival
• Community groups – such as helping the Men’s Shed purchase a dust extractor, or enabling the Denmark Bird Group to buy binoculars and a telescope to take students and community members on field trips
• Denmark Community Centre’s Community Bus running costs

Yes, donations to this fund are tax deductible.

What administration fees are deducted from my gift?

As Denmark Community Foundation is run by volunteers and doesn’t have any large overheads (such as rent), 100% of your gifts after any credit card processing fees go towards improving the wellbeing of the people of Denmark or strengthening our community.
