What we’re doing to strengthen our community:

Support initiatives that reduce social isolation

Provide emergency relief in times of crisis

Encourage local economic activity

Social Isolation

Social isolation impacts all age groups.

In simple terms it means being unintentionally alone, having few or infrequent social contacts or roles, and little involvement in clubs or organisations.

Health Impacts

Recent studies found that:

It significantly increases a person’s risk of premature death from all causes, a risk that may rival those of smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity.

It is associated with an increased risk of dementia.

Social isolation or loneliness is associated with a 29% increased risk of heart disease and a 32% increased chance of stroke.

Living Alone

Denmark has a higher proportion of households occupied by one person that the rest of WA, up from 473 in 20 to more than 700 in 2021.

Older People

Older people are more likely to experience many of the risk factors that can cause or exacerbate social isolation and loneliness.

New Parents

Becoming a new parent is a risk factor for social isolation.

Denmark is growing and the number of children in our community already exceeds the population forecasts for 2031. In 2021 there were more than 300 children aged less than 4.

Denmark

The Denmark community is at risk of an increased incidence of both social isolation and loneliness as the proportion of older people in our community continues to grow.

Where would you like to donate?

The denmark Community Fund

Your tax-deductible donation can go to the Denmark Community Fund which provides grants for projects that create opportunities for youth, support our seniors and build community wellbeing.

The income generated from this carefully managed Fund provides a perpetual and growing source of grant funding for projects that meet the existing and emerging needs of the Denmark community.

the youth  Fund

You can directly support the next generation in our community through a range of flexible giving options that are tax-deductible.

The Youth Fund provides assistance to eligible Denmark residents aged 17-25 to:

Access local, confidential crisis support

Undertake training courses to improve their job prospects

Overcome financial barriers that prevent them from participating in training

The denmark fire day fund

The Denmark Fire Day Fund was established as a result of the Denmark community being impacted by the 2022 Bayview fire. Funds are to be distributed in line with advice from the Denmark Fire Day Committee for Bushfire Preparedness and Resilience.

The denmark homeless Fund

You may have heard about efforts to help those in the community who are living rough or going through a very difficult time and find themselves without a home.

Your local community Foundation has partnered with the Denmark Homeless Project to handle donations and has already contributed $2,000 toward the purchase of a caravan for crisis accommodation to support those facing extremely challenging circumstances.

We rely on the generosity of community members to help those in need and support projects with wide reaching benefits.

Donations to these funds can be made at any time. If you are able to afford it, even a one-off donation of $20 or $50 will have an impact.

Denmark needs your help!
